Brett has strong family ties to Nomads

The Foulis family connection at Nomads Sydney South golf club is strong.

Four members of the family are members and Brett Foulis is currently the club’s captain.

“My Dad joined Nomads and I followed him in 2016,’’ Brett said.

“I have played for both Sydney South and the Sunshine Coast club. I briefly lived in the Sunshine State.’’

Brett has been swinging a club for as long as he can remember.

“I am South African born, moved to Canada when I was 6, and to Sydney when I was 10. Been here ever since, as have my parents and three brothers,’’ he said.

“I have played golf my entire life.

“My father, Ian, is an avid sportsman. He encouraged a variety of sports from an early age and golf has been one that has stuck with me.

“I started playing courses in Canada and my local course now is The Coast GC in Little Bay, Sydney.

“My lowest handicap was 11 earlier this year, but I have found my way back to 15 lately as time on the course has taken a back seat with work commitments.

“I’ve never had a hole in one, but I’ve scared the cup a few times. Fingers crossed for this to change soon!”

Brett works for food delivery giant Uber Eats.

“I manage a sales team at Uber Eats. We look after some of your favourite restaurants around Australia and New Zealand.

“I’d say this is currently my favourite role in my working life, given how convenience in our lives has exploded over the past five or so years. No day is the same for us and it’s always interesting to see the direction we are going in.’’

Brett says its been a privilege for him to take on the Captain’s role in 2023.

“We stand for so much as a club both individually and as a collective and being able to try to give back to a club that has provided me with so much is really motivating,’’ he said.

“Nothing in our club is achieved in isolation, and I am truly thankful to all on our committee for their support and those who paved the way before me.

“I hope to leave the position in a positive place for continued growth into the future.

“For us 2023 is about growing our member base. I hope we continue to grow our member base for all that want to get involved in a strong community of like-minded golfers, and raise the bar year-on-year in our contributions to charities like Jack Newton Junior Golf.’’

And what’s Brett’s ultimate golf dream?

“It’s probably quite cliche, but I’d love to play at St Andrews and pay homage to where this great game was born. I’d do it with none other than my Dad, who introduced me to the sport, and my brothers. There’s every likelihood we would do a few whisky tastings on the drive out as well, mind you.”
